Product Information

The Orrefors More Nick & Nora glasses bring old-school cocktail elegance to your own bar. This set of 2 is part of the More collection, designed by Erika Lagerbielke in lead-free Swedish crystal with brilliant clarity.

The Nick & Nora glass takes its name from Nick and Nora Charles, the stylish married sleuths created by American writer Dashiell Hammett. The famous bartender Dale DeGroff, the King of Cocktails, was searching for a small cocktail glass and found this elegant style in the film The Thin Man. He adopted it and began calling it the Nick & Nora, and the shape has been a fixture of cocktail culture ever since.

Each glass holds 5.7 oz, with a gently rounded bowl and a long stem that keeps your hand off the drink so it stays cold and composed. It is perfect for serving classic cocktails like a Martini, Cosmopolitan, Manhattan, or Margarita, and it works beautifully for a dessert wine too.

The Story Behind the Nick & Nora Glass

Credit for this glass's revival goes to Dale DeGroff, the King of Cocktails. He brought it back into rotation at New York's Rainbow Room and made it a bartender's favorite once again. The glass owes its name to The Thin Man and its married sleuths, Nick and Nora Charles, originally from Dashiell Hammett's novel. Orrefors offers this old-school Martini glass as part of the More collection, designed by Erika Lagerbielke in lead-free crystal with brilliant clarity. It holds 5.7 oz and pairs beautifully with a Martini, Cosmopolitan, Manhattan, or a dessert wine.

Nick & Nora vs the Classic Martini Glass

A Nick & Nora glass and a v-shaped Martini glass hold the same drinks but look different. The Martini glass has a wide, open bowl, while the Nick & Nora has a smaller, rounded bowl on a long stem with a slightly narrow mouth that holds aromas and resists spills. The coupe glass sits between the two, with a shallow, open bowl. For a Martini or Manhattan, the Nick & Nora is the elegant choice bartenders reach for. • Who We Are

Simple raw materials like lime, sand, and soda have been shaped into magnificent crystal in Sweden since 1898. Pioneering artists like Simon Gate and Edward Hald brought Orrefors to the world stage, and today that legacy of artistry and precision lives on in every crystal glass we produce.

    Our History
  • Our Designer

The More Nick & Nora glass begins with a named designer, Erika Lagerbielke, one of Sweden's foremost stemware designers, who has collaborated with Orrefors since the mid-1980s. She originally created the More collection for restaurants, but after interviewing restaurateurs, Lagerbielke turned it into a collection that can be used both at home and in restaurants. That design-first approach is what sets Orrefors apart.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Nick & Nora glass used for?

A Nick & Nora glass is a small, stemmed cocktail glass made for classic cocktails served without ice. The Orrefors More Nick & Nora holds 5.7 oz and suits a Martini, Cosmopolitan, Manhattan, or Margarita, and it works beautifully for a dessert wine as well. Its elegant, rounded bowl and long stem keep your hand off the drink so the cocktail stays cold.

How is a Nick & Nora glass different from a Martini glass?

A classic Martini glass has a wide, open v-shaped bowl, while a Nick & Nora has a smaller, gently rounded bowl on a long stem with a slightly narrow mouth. The Nick & Nora is less prone to spills and helps hold a drink's aromas, which is why so many professional bartenders prefer it for a stirred cocktail. Both serve the same drinks, so the choice comes down to the look and feel you want at your own bar.

What size is the Orrefors More Nick & Nora glass?

Each glass holds 5.7 oz and measures 2.8 inches wide by 6.3 inches tall. It arrives as a set of 2 in lead-free crystal. The proportions follow the classic Nick & Nora shape, sized for a proper cocktail without overfilling. See the full details in the product information above.

Are the Nick & Nora glasses a good gift?

The More Nick & Nora set is one of our most-gifted cocktail pieces, especially for weddings, housewarmings, Valentine's Day, Father's Day, Mother's Day, and the holidays. At $50 for a set of 2, it is a refined gift for the cocktail lover, the wine enthusiast, or anyone building a home bar. Gift wrapping is available at checkout. If you are shopping for a loved one with specific taste, an Orrefors gift card is a great option.

Are the Nick & Nora glasses dishwasher safe?

Yes. The More Nick & Nora glasses are dishwasher safe, though you should handle them with care during loading to protect the crystal. For long-lasting brilliance, a gentle hand wash is a safe choice. For all Orrefors pieces, always check the product page for any care notes specific to your piece.
